Social Security Disability Advocacy

Disability Outreach helps Medicaid managed care members with long-term disabilities gain access to federal disability programs. We are fundamentally committed to the well-being of the people we help and the plans that support them. Our dedication results in thorough applications and a high rate of approvals.

  • Maximizing Capitation

Medicaid managed care members with disabilities are likely to have higher utilization of services than non-disabled members and costs to insure them are significant. When Disability Outreach secures SSI eligibility for members with qualifying conditions, the managed care plan benefits from a significant increase in capitation which helps protect its fiscal health.

  • Advocacy

More than two-thirds of initial SSI applications are denied and many of those eligible for SSI do not apply or do not know how to navigate the application process. Disability Outreach advocates have extensive experience filing complete, successful applications. We work on behalf of members to ensure that all application criteria are met. We create strong partnerships with the agencies with whom we come in contact.

  • Partnership and Identification

The most effective method of identifying members who are eligible for SSI is partnership with various departments within the health plan, including medical management and finance. In combination, we are also able to analyze claims data to identify members through various factors that are suggestive of disabling conditions. By providing a comprehensive strategy we are in a position to identify as many eligible members as possible.

  • Benefit to the Plan and Member

By partnering with Disability Outreach, Medicaid plans secure significantly increased capitation for members with disabilities and manage the risk associated with insuring them. In addition, the plan offers an important social service that fosters positive relationships between the member and the plan which can increase loyalty and reduce churn. Providing members with expert SSI advocacy improves the likelihood of approval considerably. Since SSI grants a monthly cash benefit to recipients, the plan helps members with disabilities gain access to income to help meet their basic needs.
